Cultivating Ministry

"I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ." (Philippians 1:6)

Cultivating Ministry

Lancaster Theological Seminary cultivates ministerial excellence and transformation by nurturing the personal, theological, spiritual, and professional growth of pastors, from seminary to retirement.

Cultivating ministry involves commitment to spiritual transformation, personal wholeness at every stage of a pastor’s life. Ministry is an adventure in which pastors are constantly challenged to imagine new approaches to mission, preaching, teaching, and congregational leadership.

At Lancaster Theological Seminary, we believe that one of the primary tools of creative and vital ministry is the pastor’s own life. Creative ministry involves an on-going commitment to life-long learning in the arts of ministry, imaginative theological reflection, practices of personal and spiritual formation, awareness of congregational systems and the social context of congregational life, healthy and appropriate professional boundaries, personal wholeness, and service to the community and the world.

At Lancaster Theological Seminary, our goal is to promote excellence and vision for all the seasons of ministry.

To this end, we sponsor three unique clergy programs:

Wholeness in Ministry aimed at supporting pastors in the transition from seminary their first congregational call

Renewing Ministry aimed at promoting professional excellence and transformation among pastors with five or more years of experience

Harvesting Wisdom aimed at supporting pastors discern God’s vision for their lives as they prepare for retirement and beyond
